In a statement, Al-Nassr denied that the Cristiano Ronaldo contract with the club has any “commitments” to Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
According to news source AFP, Ronaldo has agreed to an additional £175m payout on top of his two and a half year contract’s $175m annual salary.
According to the source, Ronaldo would receive the same sum again if he helped the Middle Eastern country win the right to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Egypt and Greece.
However, Al-Nassr took to Twitter at 1:36am local time to dispel rumours surrounding the ex-Manchester United star’s ambassadorial role being linked with the deal he has signed.
The Saudi club tweeted: “Al Nassr FC would like to clarify that contrary to news reports, Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr does not entail commitments to any World Cup bids.
“His main focus is on Al Nassr and to work with his teammates to help the club achieve success.”

The Saudi FA has yet to confirm its intention to bid, though all three nations have expressed an initial interest in bidding alongside each other for the hosting rights.
The bidding process is set to launch later this year before the host nation or nations are announced in 2024. Current confirmed bids include Morocco and a pair of joint bids from South American and European nations.
