Sadio Mane, who is out injured for Bayern Munich, will “come back a bit earlier,” according to manager Julian Nagelsmann, and may play against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16.
The former Liverpool forward was withdrawn from Bayern’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen just before the World Cup.
The Bayern Munich forward was a doubt for the early stages of the tournament due to a right fibula injury. However, he was selected with the hopes that he’d be ready to take part after the “first games.”
Unfortunately, he was not be able to fully recover from his injury in time and therefore had to withdraw from the squad.
What Nagelsmann Said About Sadio Mane
Speaking on Thursday from Bayern’s winter training camp in Qatar, Nagelsmann told reporters Mane was making better than expected progress in his return from the right fibula injury which ruled him out of the World Cup.
“He (Mane) is an important player. When everything goes well, it could be that he’s there against Paris,” Nagelsmann said. But we will see.
“In my mind, I’m not counting on him for the first game against Paris.”
