After being questioned on social media about the possibility of a transfer to Man United, the girlfriend of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong made a joke about the date he will “arrive” at the club.
The Red Devils are thought to have long-standing admiration for De Jong, who they made an attempt to sign last summer but failed to do so because of his desire to stay at the Nou Camp.
The Dutchman emerged as Erik ten Hag’s top target, and a long and drawn-outΒ search for his signature ensued before United finally gave up and decided to buy Casemiro from Real Madrid in his place.
However, the chance of a future deal has remained strong, with United still reported to be interested in bringing De Jong to Old Trafford.
When asked on Monday on Instagram by a follower when De Jong would be arriving in Manchester, the player’s girlfriend, Mikky Kiemeney, wasted no time in coming up with a witty response.
She responded with a screenshot of United’s schedule showing their forthcoming home game against Barcelona, which is scheduled for later this month, alongside the caption: “23-2 I guess.”

De Jong will indeed be arriving in Manchester before the end of February to play for Barcelona against United in the second of two legs in the Europa League knockout stages.
He will be desperate to put in a strong performance for the Catalan giants in order to ensure their progression in the decisive fixture, while an influential showing will also show Ten Hag what he is missing at Man United after failing to add the 25-year-old to his ranks over the summer.
