Chelsea are reportedly having difficulty in reaching an agreement with Mason Mount on a new long-term contract.
The England international’s current contract expires in the summer of 2024, which means he will be a free agent at the end of next season.
Chelsea are working hard to sign Mount to new terms as soon as possible, but if the 24-year-old does not renew, they will be in a difficult situation.
Liverpool are said to be keeping a close eye on developments surrounding the 24-year-future, old’s who Chelsea may be forced to sell this summer if contract talks fail.
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is discussing a new seven-year contract for Mount, but negotiations have stalled over his pay package.
According to the report, Mount is still one of Stamford Bridge’s lowest-paid players, and he wants a salary that reflects his continued importance to Graham Potter’s team.
Instead, Chelsea is emphasising their recent January signings, who are all earning around £70,000 per week on average, and the security provided by their long-term contracts.
Mount is seeking a wage that would put him on par with his England teammates at Stamford Bridge, but negotiations have so far yielded little progress, and Chelsea may opt to let the midfielder leave in the summer.

Mount has 33 goals and 37 assists in 188 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup after loan spells with Vitesse and Derby County.
However, the England international has struggled to find his best form this season, scoring three goals and assisting six more in 28 appearances across all competitions.
Mount has not directly contributed to a goal in five consecutive Premier League games, but he remains a Potter favourite and has started 19 times this season.
