When he’s not destroying White Walkers or protecting the Wall, John Bradley, the actor behind Game of Thrones’ Samwell Tarly, is a keen Manchester United supporter.
The loyal side-kick to Jon Snow in the hit fantasy drama has returned for the show’s sixth instalment, and episode one aired for the first time on Sunday evening.
Bradley is just as loyal in real life to his beloved United; the actor has a season ticket at Old Trafford, and can frequently therefore be found cheering on the Red Devils.
And the 28-year-old, who grew up in the city, has revealed the players at the club he considers his favourites.
The actor, like so many pundits and fans, has been excited by the emergence of Marcus Rashford this season. The 18-year-old has four Premier League goals in eight games in the top flight and is tipped for great things at United.
Speaking to MUTV at the weekend, Bradley said: “I’m very impressed by [Marcus Rashford]. Some things are instinctive in players and you can tell he has a really good eye for goal, he knows where to go, the timing of his runs are very innate and I think you get the best out of players when you do drop them right in it.
“He didn’t know he was going to play 15 minutes before kick-off against Midtjylland for his debut. The United way has been to bleed them in gradually but we plunged him right in at the deep end, the pressure was on and he did a job for us!”
Bradley also says he enjoys watching Memphis Depay play in the iconic red shirt at the club. Depay only moved to United in the summer and although he has struggled slightly with form the actor hopes to see more from the Dutch international.
Bradley added: “I really like Memphis Depay. We have always had that at United, these explosive wide players.
“There is a history of full-backs who must have dreaded playing against United’s wide players and I’d like to think Memphis can carry on, really kick on with his good form and cause a lot of nightmares for full-backs going forward.
“He has blistering pace, you never know which way he is going to turn and he is incredibly agile. That kind of handful can be devastating at times.”
