Wolfsburg have confirmed they have sacked striker Nicklas Bendtner after recent problems with the club, which had already led to his suspension.
The Denmark international, who joined the Bundesliga outfit on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2014 but has since struggled since then, has been training on his own for the past month or so.
Wolfsburg’s director of sport Klaus Allofs confirmed recently that Bendtner had been excused from training, after a few troubles at the club.
Allofs went on to say there had been talks between the respective parties to sort something out, but it seems as though Bendtner, 28, is now going to have to search for a new employer.
The former Sunderland man, who had a contract with Wolfsburg until June 2017, has had his deal terminated by the Bundesliga outfit.
“Nicklas and we had promised to its presence at VfL Wolfsburg, after almost two years we have found that these expectations have not been met neither for himself nor for us and would have made a further continuation no sense,” Allofs told the club’s official website.
“Therefore, this step is to terminate the cooperation now prematurely by mutual agreement, which is logical and the best solution for all. We wish Nicklas good luck in his career.”
The forward was recently fined for a photo he posted online of a Mercedes and has always seen behaviour problems on and off the field curtail what could have been a promising career.
Bendtner, who has missed the last 11 league games, has played 13 times in the Bundesliga this campaign – nine of them off the bench – and managed just two goals in return.
It remains to be seen who will take a gamble on Bendtner in the future, but the forward will certainly have to prove he has what it takes to change his ways.
