Julian Alvarez To Sign New Manchester City Contract

Julian Alvarez is reportedly set to sign a new long-term contract with Manchester City, which would keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.

The 22-year-old forward joined the Citizens from River Plate in January 2022 and returned to his boyhood club on loan before joining Pep Guardiola’s side last summer.

Following the arrival of Erling Braut Haaland in the summer, Alvarez has had to settle for a supporting role in City’s first squad this season, starting only 14 of his 31 games in all competitions.

Despite this, the forward has scored 10 goals and provided three assists this season, scoring at least once in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Community Shield.

Alvarez was one of Argentina’s breakout players at the 2022 World Cup, scoring four goals and assisting once in seven games, including a brace in the 3-0 semi-final victory over Croatia.

Alvarez’s current contract at the Etihad Stadium expires in the summer of 2027, but a recent report suggests that the forward has been in talks with City about a new lucrative agreement.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Alvarez has “accepted” City’s latest contract offer and will sign a one-year extension next week.

The forward is said to be making roughly £50,000 per week on his present contract, but Romano reports that he will be rewarded with a ‘significant’ pay increase for his performance since joining the club.

Alvarez will look to force his way into the starting lineup when Manchester City hosts RB Leipzig in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.
