Ben Chilwell ‘Set To Sign New Chelsea Contract’

Ben Chilwell ‘Set To Sign New Chelsea Contract’

Ben Chilwell has reportedly agreed to sign a new contract at Chelsea that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Since joining the Blues for £50m from Leicester City in August 2020, the left-back has established himself as an important player.

Chilwell has made 80 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists in that time, despite missing significant time due to injuries.

However, this has probably further accentuated Chilwell’s significance at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea appearing to be a weaker team in his absence.

Since Chelsea started a new era with new owners at the end of May, there has been a focus on keeping as many players as possible out of the final two years of their contracts.

With Chilwell’s contract set to expire in 2025, speculation about the next phase of his career has begun, with the England international not short of fans.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Chilwell at a time when Pep Guardiola may seek a new option at left back.

Nevertheless, according to The Athletic, Chilwell is ready to commit his future to the West Londoners by signing new terms.

According to the source, Chilwell will sign a contract extension until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season, a two-year extension that is not necessarily in line with the club’s preferred strategy.

Since last year, it has been clear that the Chelsea management wants as many players as possible to be on six-year contracts, spreading the financial outlay over a longer period of time to help FFP problems.

Having said that, retaining Chilwell’s services, if confirmed, will be viewed as an important coup ahead of a period of uncertainty.
