Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez is exploring the possibility of playing left-back, Jordi Alba in an advanced role until the end of the season.
Alba’s playing time has been somewhat hampered by Alejandro Balde’s entry into the first squad. But as was seen against Girona in Barcelona’s most recent game, Xavi appears to have found the ideal balance to accommodate both players.
While Balde continued to play on the left side of the defense during the 0-0 draw with Girona, Xavi unexpectedly substituted Alba for Raphinha late in the game.
As it turned out, the seasoned Spaniard had an immediate impact and was his team’s best passer. He completed all nine of his passes during his little cameo of 15 minutes. Creating a genuine sense of danger in the final third.
The 34-year-old had excellent wing-exploitation skills during his little stint on the field. Furthermore, it is hardly shocking that he has tremendous talent. Alba is after all one of the few defenders with more than 100 assists.
According to SPORT as reported by Barca Universal, Xavi has started to look into the idea of featuring Alba in a more significant role. With this, he may collaborate with Balde and simultaneously have a significant impact.

Alba has established himself as the ideal partner for players like Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, and Luis Suarez throughout the years. His left-sided services have greatly benefited each of them.
Although there are now doubts about his future with the team after the current campaign. Xavi can still benefit much from his vision in attack. Especially at a time when Barça’s attackers haven’t been performing at their best.
