Barcelona Captain Rules Out The Possibility Of MLS Transfer, In A “Messi” Situation

Barcelona captain, Sergio Busquets, gave an update on his situation on Tuesday, stating that he would soon make an announcement on his decision about whether or not to extend his contract.

Busquets’ current deal with Barcelona expires on June 30, and the club has made the midfielder an offer to extend it for another year, but at a much reduced wage.

He’s had the proposition on the table for more than a month, and a decision is now imminent.

“I have almost made the final decision about my future. Now, there are a couple days off, and when I come back, I will surely inform Xavi,” he had said.

While all of this is going on, AS is now reporting that Busquets has completely ruled out moving to the MLS in the summer.

The 34-year-old midfielder appeared to be moving to Major League Soccer earlier this year, with Inter Miami thought to be the most likely destination.

Even the franchise, which is partially owned by David Beckham, had engaged in discussions about a potential transfer.

However, fast forward to May and it is now being reported that Busquets is no longer considering a move to the MLS at this point.

It leaves the midfielder with just two options for his future. He has to either sign a contract with Barcelona or move to Saudi Arabia, where he can expect a big paycheck.

Intriguingly, those appear to be the options that are left in front of Busquets’ close friend and former teammate Lionel Messi.

The Argentine is certain to leave PSG this summer and has Barcelona as a possible destination. Al-Hilal another one, who are willing to offer him an outrageous €400 million per year deal.
