Why Liverpool Shouldn’t Sign £32m Ligue 1-Linked Midfielder

This year has seen the French midfielder raise heads, but should Liverpool look elsewhere.

Liverpool are apparently interested in Nice’s Khephren Thuram, but no deal is expected to be completed – which isn’t always a negative thing.

Granted, he is a very good young midfielder who will most certainly join a big European team in the next seasons, but there are better possibilities for Jurgen Klopp to consider.

According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool is unlikely to take actual moves to sign him. They report that, while the Reds have ‘tracked’ Thuram, they are ‘not anticipated’ to pursue him further at this time.

Liverpool are now linked with Ryan Gravenberch, Mason Mount, and Alexis MacAllister, all of whom hint to Klopp’s need for midfielders who not only work incredibly hard but also have an eye for goal.

Thuram has nine goals and 11 assists in 139 games for Nice and Monaco thus far.

This season, he has two goals and eight assists, which is a decent return, but he has yet to demonstrate that he is ready for the Premier League or even Europe’s top competition.

With a contract that runs until 2025, any deal for the Nice midfielder is likely to be north of £50 million, and when compared to signing the likes of Mount or Mac Allister, it struggles to compete as they are more likely to come straight into the team and have an immediate positive impact.

However, his lack of European experience would be a major stumbling barrier in comparison to their other targets, especially given that Liverpool will be saying farewell to the likes of James Milner, Arthur Melo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita this summer.
