According to sources, Manchester City are seeking to derail Liverpool’s intentions to bring World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister to Merseyside with a deal for the Brighton midfielder.
Mac Allister has long been connected with the Reds, who are planning a midfield overhaul following an up-and-down season that saw Jurgen Klopp’s team secure European status at the last minute but miss out on a Champions League position.
Liverpool are thought to be nearing an agreement with the Argentina international, with incoming sports director Jorg Schmadtke eager to sign a contract within his first month at Anfield.
However, the Premier League champions might be the thorn in the side as they plan their own moves in the forthcoming transfer window.
Pep Guardiola and sporting director Txiki Begiristain are said to have put up a list of their top goals over the summer in order to build on the success of their incredible 2022/23 campaign.
As per the Mirror, Mac Allister is heavily favored as the club looks to replace captain Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, both of whom are expected to leave Manchester during the transfer season.
The 24-year-old’s Brighton teammate, 19-year-old sensation Julio Enciso, who has starred for the Seagulls since making his Premier League debut this season, is also on the wish list.

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich is also a target, while RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol – formerly a Chelsea target – might be a worthy replacement for out-of-favour Aymeric Laporte.
Unlike Liverpool, City can entice Mac Allister with the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season, having topped the table with three games to spare.
