Former Manchester United defender and Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville has indicated his surprise to Arsenal easily surrendering their commanding lead to Manchester City. Further saying he didn’t think the Gunners would have passed the opportunity to win their first league title in 19 years.
Neville was heavily criticized for his belief that Man City will “hunt down” Arsenal after the Gunners’ 3-2 victory over the Red Devils in January. Which gave them a five-point lead over Man City with a game in hand.
When Man City won their fifth league title in six years on Saturday, they left Arsenal in the dust and went seven points ahead with a game remaining. Proving correctly, the former defender’s point of view.
“No one, not even me who thought City would win the league, would ever have imagined that in these games that Arsenal would have dropped these points,” Neville told Sky Sports two days after Man City’s title win.
“Newcastle, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea potentially, they were always difficult games and good potential to drop points in.
“But if Arsenal had just picked up their necessary points that they would have done in the early part of the season.
“But they would still be level with City now or even a point or two in front if they had done the jobs in those games at the bottom of the table and Brighton at home as well.”

Neville cited the Gunners’ draws against West Ham, Southampton, and Nottingham Forest, all of whom were in the midst of the relegation struggle when the Gunners played them.
Neville thinks it is obvious that the Gunners have a mentality problem as the season’s pressure-filled final stretch approaches.
