Joselu’s loan from Espanyol to Real Madrid has been officially announced for the 2023–24 season.
Despite Espanyol finishing 19th and being relegated to the Segunda Division, the 33-year-old had a standout 2022–23 season on an individual level, scoring 16 goals in 33 La Liga games.
Real Madrid decided to bring him back to the Bernabeu as a result of his recent form. He had previously joined their Castilla team in 2010 when he was 20 years old.
Joselu played with Madrid for two years, although throughout that time he only made two first-team appearances, scoring once each in the Copa del Rey and La Liga.
The striker will now sign a loan agreement with Real for a reported cost of €500,000 (£426,000), with the option to convert the agreement into a permanent one for €1.5m (£1.3m) next summer.
Joselu, who will be presented as a new Real Madrid player on Tuesday, was part of the Spain squad that claimed the UEFA Nations League trophy with a penalty shootout victory over Croatia on Sunday night.
