Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the transfer of Ajax defender, Jurrien Timber in the summer transfer window.
According to Football London, Mikel Arteta is interested in Timber. And the Gunners are eager to improve their defensive options.
The defender was one of Erik ten Hag’s favorites during his reign at the Dutch club. He was also said to launch a bid for the youngster when he moved to Manchester United last season.
The Netherlands international makes a lot of sense given his versatility, which Arteta has frequently expressed appreciation for in the past. The Eredivisie giants rejected the Gunners’ opening offer of £30 million last week.
Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal are entering the third day of negotiations with Ajax for Timber after they submitted an improved bid. He also claimed that the Gunners are confident and optimistic about coming to a deal for the 22-year-old.
According to CBS reporter James Benge, Timber is close to moving to Arsenal in a £43.5 million agreement. And the deal is anticipated to be finalized soon.
The Dutch defender, who has a deal with Ajax through 2025, may possibly be on the verge of moving to north London this week.
It was reported last week that Timber and the Gunners have verbally agreed on a contract that runs through 2028.

According to the reports, the talented player has signed a contract worth €8 million (£6.9 million), which is double his present pay. A final fee agreement is also getting closer, with the estimated price quoted at £43.5 million.
Timber was an ever present player for John Heitinga’s side last season. The defender featured in 47 games across all competitions for Ajax as they went trophy-less in the last campaign.
