Coleman: Why I Extended My Contract At Everton

Seamus Coleman has agreed to a new deal with Everton, extending his tenure at Goodison Park to a historic fifteenth season reported by dailymail

Coleman, Everton’s captain, had to miss the final few weeks of the previous season due to knee ligament damage, but his presence behind the scenes in terms of galvanizing players and reminding fans what was at risk was enormous.

Sean Dyche said soon after Coleman was injured in May that Everton would find a way to keep him when the season ended, and that has happened, with a 12-month contract agreed upon.

It means that one of the best value for money purchases in Premier League history will now have the opportunity to write his own chapter in the club’s history by becoming the player with the most appearances in the modern period.

He is now three places behind Tim Howard (354) on the record and has made 409 appearances in all competitions since joining from Sligo Rovers for £60,000 in January 2009.

Coleman said: ‘Everyone knows how much Everton means to me which is why it is special to sign this new contract and continue to play for this great club.

‘From the moment I joined more than 14 years ago, the support my family and I have had from our fans and everyone around the Club has been amazing and I never take for granted just how fortunate I am to represent Everton. That has included the honour of wearing the captain’s armband in recent years.’

Coleman will return to Finch Farm next week to continue his rehabilitation alongside the rest of the Everton team. After a training camp in the Alps, they play their first pre-season friendly in Geneva on July 14.
