Liverpool’s second summer signing, Dominik Szoboszlai, a 22-year-old Hungarian midfielder has landed in Merseyside for a medical before finalizing his £60M transfer from RB Leipzig to the Premier League after the Reds activated his release clause.
In order to bring the young attacking star to Anfield, the Reds made the decision to activate the £60M (€70M) clause hours before the deadline.
Leipzig had been unwilling to negotiate a fee or payment structure. And they had also made it clear that they would not willingly discuss the player’s departure.
Following a disastrous 2022–23 season, the Reds’ decision to pay Szoboszlai’s whole transfer fee up front demonstrates how committed they were to signing a player that Jürgen Klopp views as an essential component of his midfield rebuild. It also sends a strong message of their intentions.
Prior to yesterday’s deadline, the deal was secured to the satisfaction of Leipzig. As a result, the player has now touched down to Merseyside for a medical examination. And to finalize his transfer to his new club.
