Liverpool Forced To Delay £80m Anfield Road Stand Opening As New Plan Confirmed

The building of Liverpool’s new £80 million Anfield Road stand has been delayed by two months.

The club aimed to have the construction completed in time for the team’s first Premier League home game against Bournemouth on August 19. A request was made to the league to ensure that Liverpool’s opening match of the new season was played away, giving the club the necessary extra time.

However, the responsible contractor, Buckingham Group, is still in the process of meeting Liverpool City Council’s licensing criteria for all aspects of the building. The new upper tier will not be completed until October, with the club anticipating a phased launch as they gradually boost the capacity to 61,000.According to Mirror

Liverpool’s managing director, Andy Hughes, stated, “This has been a hugely ambitious and complex construction project from the start.”

“Unfortunately, the upper tier of the Anfield Road Stand will be unavailable for the Bournemouth match.” Buckingham, the principal contractor, will so collaborate with Liverpool City Council’s licensing staff to undertake a phased opening process.

“There are always so many variables and challenges along the way, as with any complex major construction project of this scale.”

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work with Buckingham over the next few weeks to complete this program, and we can’t wait to have this fantastic new Anfield Road stand fully open for supporters.”

The new Anfield Road, like the Main Stand seven years before, was built over the course of 18 months with no need to limit overall capacity due to a complex engineering project.

The last months of the Main Stand’s construction in 2016 were also delayed before the club could properly declare it open, however this had no effect on capacity.
