THE transfer season is officially here and clubs have been making their moves to strengthen and ensure better season than last. Interestingly, some major players have remained inactive, though they have the remainder of this month and 31 days of August to delve into their usually deep wallets and excite their fans.
My club, Liverpool, have been very busy in the market, understandably so after last woeful campaign. However, they are yet to excite me. I’d have loved us to land Arturo Vidal and Roma’s Raja Nainggolan to shore up our lightweight midfield. But this remains a pipe dream at best.
Surprisingly, I agree with the Reds that they should be careful in pursuing a striker unless we’re able to ship away a couple from last season’s misfits. For starters Divoc Origi is back with us after a lone spell last season and we also have Danny Ings. Certainly not stellar names, and I like stellar names if I’m honest; but I’m prepared to give these young guns a benefit of doubt.
Stellar names or signings have to be balanced with the needs of the team. So unless we rid ourselves of Fabio Borini and possibly Rickie Lambert, it won’t make sense to plunge for a striker now in order not to destroy the team’s harmony by becoming overloaded in that department; don’t forget that Daniel Sturridge will hopefully increase personnel in our attack late September.
That’s my lot at Liverpool for now. But pray, let me ask you: have your club excited you with good signings this summer? Also who would you like to see added to your team as the window officially opened late last week?
