Liverpool Icon Persuades Klopp To Sign Everton Youngster

Liverpool legend, John Aldridge has urged manager Jurgen Klopp to make a move for Everton defender, Jarrod Branthwaite.

Despite losing in skeptic circumstances, the 21-year-old showed promise for Sean Dyche’s team in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

The 10-man Toffees were defeated at Anfield by Mohamed Salah’s two late goals. But Everton insisted that Ibrahima Konate ought to have been given a second yellow card for a late challenge on Beto. Ashley Young was dismissed for a comparable offense prior to this.

Nevertheless, the Toffees can learn a lot from the game despite playing with one less player for more than half of the game.

Branthwaite was one of them; he performed for the Toffees with confidence. After missing the first two games of the season, the defender—who was on loan at PSV—has solidified his place in the starting lineup.

Aldridge, a former striker for the Reds, now thinks Klopp need to make an effort to sign the gifted England Under 21 player.

Branthwaite would be the first player to join Liverpool from Everton since Abel Xavier in January 2002 if he were to move across Stanley Park.

What Did Aldridge Say About Branthwaite Fit For Liverpool?

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “I don’t want to upset any Evertonians by saying this. And whether Liverpool would buy from Everton is another matter as it rarely happens.

“But I certainly think he has got the ability to go on and become a leading figure and a starter for England.

“The fact Jurgen Klopp even talked him up before the game in his pre-match press conference was interesting.

“He is likely to be on the radar of other teams as well, Manchester United have already been mentioned as a possible destination, but it’s up to Everton over what they do with him.

“Branthwaite recently signed a new contract with Everton, too.

“Coming to Liverpool would be hard for the lad, it takes a bit of doing to make that switch across Stanley Park. I don’t want to upset anyone, I will stress that again, but I think he has a really bright future.”
