Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has responded to Darwin Nunez’s shocking open net miss in Liverpool’s 5-1 rout against French club, Toulouse in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
Diogo Jota gave the Reds a 1-0 lead in just under ten minutes, but in the sixteenth, Thijs Dallinga silenced Anfield.
Wataru Endo and Nunez had put Liverpool ahead 3-1 at the half.
In the second half, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah scored the remaining two goals for Klopp’s team, securing a 5-1 victory.
Jota put through Uruguayan striker Nunez in the game’s pivotal moment.
The 24-year-old showed incredible technique to evade the defender and the goalie but with the goal gaping, the Uruguayan struck the post.
Fortunately for Nunez, Gravenberch was there at the ideal moment to grab the rebound and score.
That scene encapsulates Nunez’s Liverpool career, as he displayed both genius and recklessness at different points in time.
According to SportBible, after the game, Klopp commented: “He played incredible. Honestly, in this moment, I don’t think I could care less that he hits the post.
“Everything before was super-convincing, was absolutely clear, how he took the defender away, how he passed the goalie, it was a perfect situation.”
He added: “He played really good, the goal he scored, the situations he was involved, dropping into midfield, staying on the ball, all these kinds of things. There were a lot of good things.”
