Barcelona Eye Talismanic Forward With 15 Goals This Season

Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Feyenoord striker, Santiago ‘Santi’ Gimenez with a summer transfer swoop on the cards.

The Mexico international is currently having a wonderful start to the season in the Eredivisie.

Given that Barcelona have agreed on a contract for the acquisition of Vitor Roque and have Robert Lewandowski as their primary centre forward. They do not currently have any plans to recruit a new striker.

Given his form and potential, the teenage Brazilian is anticipated to join the team during the January transfer window and is considered the long-term successor to the No. 9 position.

However, according to SPORT as cited by Barca Universal, the Catalan club are keeping an eye out for any openings in the market, and Gimenez in particular seems to have caught their attention.

Gimenez switched from Cruz Azul to Feyenoord last year, and in his first season, he helped the team win the Eredivisie.

The 22-year-old forward is off to a blistering start in the 2023–24 campaign, having already scored 15 goals in 12 games across all competitions and providing three assists.

Deco, the sporting director of Barça, is adamant that the Blaugrana outfit need to seize opportunities. He also thinks it would be wise to keep a watch on Gimenez, depending on what transpires in the summer.

The Mexican star is currently not a priority, but the team wants to be prepared in case they get the chance to sign a striker.
