RB Leipzig forward, Timo Werner has seen his career remain at a standstill, as the club is set to end his second spell.
In June 2020, Werner signed a £47.5 million contract to leave the German team and join Chelsea, shortly after then manager Frank Lampard was free to make additions after the transfer ban was lifted.
However, in his two years at Stamford Bridge, the attacker fell short of expectations, netting just 23 goals in 89 club appearances.
Along with helping the club win the European Super Cup and Club World Cup. He was a member of the team that won the Champions under Lampard’s replacement, Thomas Tuchel.
Moving to Leipzig for £25.3 million in 2022 was seen as an opportunity to revitalize his career. But, following a lackluster return season, he started just two games in the 2023–24 season.
The Germany international is having difficulties. According to The Mirror, Leipzig director Rouven Schroder has acknowledged in public that he may be about to move on.
“We look carefully at our squad, and we want players who have that something a bit different in their heads,” he told reporters.
“Those are the types of players who we will pick. Timo is going through a difficult spell, and we are supporting him. Life isn’t always sunshine. If he has the notion that he would like to do something else, then we will deal with it.”
Manager Marco Rose opted for Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko over Werner this season.

The 27-year-old was linked with a move to Newcastle United last summer. But a move never materialised.
Werner missed out in the World Cup in Qatar through injury. He has 57 caps and 24 goals for Germany.
