Tottenham Hotspur’s Stance On Giovani Lo Celso Is Out As Barcelona Seeks for A Successor For Gavi

Tottenham will reject any January approach from Barcelona for Giovani Lo Celso.

After midfielder Gavi suffered a catastrophic knee injury, Barcelona chose Lo Celso as a loan candidate.

Spurs, on the other hand, have ruled out a January exit for Lo Celso, who is expected to play a larger role now that James Maddison has been ruled out until at least January with an ankle injury according to sport.co.uk

The Argentina international has made just three Premier League substitute appearances this season, with his one start coming in the Carabao Cup defeat at Fulham.

Barcelona were interested in signing Lo Celso this summer, and their manager Xavi is a fan of the 27-year-old, who is also wanted by Real Betis and Atletico Madrid.

After Gavi suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury while playing for Spain on Sunday, the Catalan club is assessing their January transfer alternatives.

Spurs have been plagued by injury, and midfielders Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr will miss the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Lo Celso has struggled to establish himself at Spurs after joining for £55 million from Real Betis in 2019, but he is expected to play an important role in the squad in the coming months.

Bissouma and Cristian Romero are both suspended for Sunday’s home game against Aston Villa, while Micky van de Ven is out till next year as well.

Left-back Destiny Udogie was forced to withdraw from the Italy squad due to a muscle issue.
