Leeds United Join Celtic In Race For A New Striker

Leeds United are interested in Cape Town Spurs striker Luke Baartman, according to last night’s report from The Sun.

The striker is only 17 years old at this point, but he is already having an impact on his present club.

In four senior appearances this season, he managed to score against the Kaiser Chiefs, which is an impressive performance given that they are one of South Africa’s most recognizable names.

He has also made two appearances against the Orlando Pirates, which will be valuable experience for him – and the adolescent also represents South Africa at the youth international level.

The 17-year-old will be hoping for senior caps sooner rather than later, but his priority right now is likely to remain his club, given that he has already had an opportunity to shine for the first squad.

But a move away from his current club could be tempting this winter, especially with CT Spurs currently down at the bottom end of their division.

Who has taken an interest in Luke Baartman?

Celtic are believed to be interested in Baartman after scouting him – and the Scottish Premiership side could be an attractive destination considering the size of the club.

It may also be simpler for him to get into the first squad in Glasgow than it would be at a Premier League club, with English top-flight clubs also showing interest, though the Scottish club does not see him as someone who will be engaged in the senior team in the near future.

Leeds, who are rumored to be in need of a forward in January, have been listed as an interested party in The Sun’s report, with the Whites’ scouting network evidently extending far and wide.

It remains to be seen whether the West Yorkshire club will make a play for him when the winter transfer market opens.

Should Leeds United make a move for Luke Baartman?

Given that he is only 17, it is unclear whether he would be a good addition to the first squad at this time.

However, if he is, the teenager would be a wonderful signing considering the Whites did not do anything to improve their striker department over the summer.

They may have signed Joel Piroe, but he hasn’t played up front for much of his time at Elland Road, and with Joe Gelhardt presently out, it’s shown just how little depth there is in the forward area.

If the Whites are to have the best chance of gaining promotion, they must have depth in all areas.

And Baartman could be a good choice. In light of his age,he will only get better.
