Real Madrid has expressed interest in 23-year-old Giorgi Mamardashvili, a goalkeeper from Valencia, to take Kepa Arrizabalaga’s place.
According to The Hard Tackle, Real Madrid is reportedly interested in Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to a report by the Spanish publication Fichajes. Chelsea, one of the top teams in the Premier League, is also interested in the 23-year-old. It’s interesting to note that the Merengues are interested in signing Valencia’s goalkeeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is presently on loan from Chelsea.
Giorgi Mamardashvili: A La Liga Rising Star
Following his move from Dinamo Tbilisi to Valencia, Giorgi Mamardashvili has established himself as one of the top young goalkeepers in La Liga. The Georgian international was first signed by Los Che on a loan in July 2021, and a permanent contract was finalized in January 2022. He has since established himself as the Spanish club’s starting goalie.
The 23-year-old has made 79 appearances for Valencia so far, recording 23 clean sheets. Mamardashvili, meanwhile, has made 14 appearances for his country’s squad and is a regular for Georgia. The young player’s development has not gone unnoticed, drawing interest from numerous prestigious teams, including Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Which team will Mamardashvili sign for, Real Madrid or Chelsea?
The reason Chelsea is interested in Valencia’s goalkeeper is because Robert Sanchez has been inconsistent. Following his transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion to the West London club, the Spanish goalkeeper has not established himself. Furthermore, Kepa Arrizabalaga has no future at Chelsea, who will try to sell him when he returns from his loan at Real Madrid the following year.
In relation to Real Madrid, the Merengues are unsure if they will sign Kepa to a long-term contract for the upcoming season. So, in anticipation of the summer transfer window of 2024, they are searching the market for goalkeepers. So, Real Madrid has their eye on a number of goalkeepers.
Matheus and Randall Rodriguez are listed as targets in the report, and Giorgi Mamardashvili is also included in their wish list. However, Los Blancos will have fierce competition for the 23-year-old Georgian international from Chelsea and several other Premier League heavyweights.
It will be intriguing to watch if Real Madrid is able to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga on a long-term contract or go after Mamardashvili. But at the Santiago Bernabeu, regular playing time will be scarce, so a transfer to the Premier League might be more alluring.
