Brentford technical director Lee Dykes has warned both Arsenal and Chelsea that they will have to pay a ‘decent transfer fee’ to lure Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.
In January, Toney is scheduled to return to football after serving his eight-month ban for violating the betting regulations of the Football Association (FA).
But, given that both Chelsea and Arsenal have looked into possible deal during the upcoming transfer window, the striker—who finished the previous season with 20 goals in the Premier League—may have already played his final game for Brentford.
According to The Metro, Dykes acknowledges that Toney might leave Brentford “very shortly.” He is adamant that the 27-year-old won’t be allowed to leave for a low-ball offer.
What Did Dykes Say About Toney’s Potential Move In January?
‘I am so excited for Ivan to come back because I see him out there in training and he is some player; it looks like he’s never been away,’ Dykes said in an interview with Brentford’s in-house media team.
‘There’s a real ambition from him and I can see in his eyes that he’s going to be better than he’s ever been; I really believe that will be the case.
‘Yes, there will be lots of interest in Ivan in January. Naturally, there should be.
‘He was the third-highest Premier League goalscorer last season – one of them [Harry Kane] has gone to Germany now, so he’s up there as one of the best strikers in the division. He is in the top five in the world, in my opinion.
