Klopp Hails ‘Not Perfect’ Liverpool For Taking Premier League Top Spot

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp lauded his side for topping the Premier League table standings despite not being ‘perfect’ this season.

The Reds recorded a 2-o win against Burnley at the Turf Moor on Boxing Day, goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota ensured the club leapfrogged Arsenal to the top spot. Although, the Gunners are billed to lock horns with West Ham United on Thursday at the Emirates Stadium. A victory will take Mikel Arteta’s side back to the top of the pile.

According to Daily Mail, Klopp whose team play Newcastle next on New Year’s day is happy at how his new-look side is shaping up.

What Did Klopp Say About His Team’s Performance?

“The first part of the season has not been perfect but absolutely alright,” he said.

“We can not now be more than a point away from the top after this week’s games – that’s within punching distance.

“Whatever the outside world thinks, it is really intense to play four matches in 10 days. It’s been a really busy period.

“It’s nice to be top. I won’t raise my arms because it will probably changed but to have 42 points is really pleasing. Darwin and Diogo were the perfect scorers for us.

“Darwin is an incredible finisher but if a striker doesn’t score, you question everything in the moment. Now he has it (another goal), so it’s all good.”

Nunez opened the scoring with his first goal in 13 games. Harvey Elliott’s goal was controversially disallowed for offside, which made Burnley mount a strong comeback.

Before Jota, who had been out for a month due to a hamstring injury, came off the bench to seal the victory late in the game, the hosts had a chance to tie the score after Johann Berg Gudmundsson missed a clear opportunity.
