Premier League Will Punish Man City With Relegation If FFP Charges Proven

Manchester City will be relegated to the English Football League (EFL) if they are found guilty of the 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches levied against them.

City are facing over 100 allegations of financial mismanagement, which could mean that their future in the Premier League is in jeopardy.

The club’s former financial advisor, Stefan Borson, has issued a severe warning. Implying that relegation may be imminent should the charges be validated. English clubs are awaiting the hearing’s verdict when this information is made public.

Borson contends that City’s case is entirely different from Everton’s and Nottingham Forest’s, who have also been accused of breaking the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability regulations.

What Did Borson Say About Man City’s Alleged FFP Breaches?

Borson made clear how serious the situation is, telling talkSPORT as echoed by Liverpool.com.

“There can be no question that this will end in at least relegation — that’s no question if those charges are proven. There’s a suggestion of conspiracy over effectively a 10-year period.”

“They [Premier League] are suggesting that City’s main sponsorship agreements are not for £50-60m. But are actually for £8m and the whole thing was a sham,” Borson continued.

“That a whole load of people lied and a whole load of executives from multiple companies were in on it. And that the club also lied to multiple other parties.

“Professionals, people doing due diligence on the company, the league, UEFA, the FA.”

Because there are so many people involved, Borson thinks it is unlikely that City will be found guilty despite the seriousness of the charges.

He makes the observation that demonstrating such broad assertions would call for an unparalleled degree of convincing evidence.

He also wonders how high-ranking members of the club and related businesses could have engaged in such misconduct and it remaining undiscovered for ten years.
