Barcelona’s Claim of Being ‘More Than A Club’ In Question If They Pursue Man United’s Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood, a great player on loan from Manchester United, is trying to revive his football career at La Liga team Getafe away from the spotlight of the Premier League.

In his 17 games for the Spanish team, the 22-year-old has a respectable return of three goals and four assists, but it seems that Barcelona scouts are more interested in his all-around play.

The Sun believes that the Catalans are in the lead to sign him after hearing “overwhelmingly positive” things about him.

Even while it seems like his football skills have never been questioned, his off-field choices have frequently caused significant controversy.

While it is true that everyone is entitled to a second opportunity and that Greenwood has never been accused of sexual misdemeanors, there is a good reason why Man United does not want him back on the field, even in spite of his clear potential.

It’s with that in mind that Barcelona can’t really claim to be ‘more than a club’ any longer.

The club have dined out on that strap line since the late 1960s, suggesting that their values and certain business decisions – eg wearing Unicef on their shirts and paying the charity for the privilege – make them a little different to their contemporaries. Better somehow.

Signing Greenwood, 22, would make sense from a footballing perspective, but there are moral issues in play here, and the Catalans could expect to get a monumental backlash from their fans.
