Manchester United midfielder, Casemiro believes Erik ten Hag is capable of turning things around at the club, and claimed they are capable of ‘achieving great things’.
The Dutchman won the Carabao Cup, United’s first trophy in six years. And guided the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League the previous season.
But United’s poor performance this season, coupled with their inability to build on a strong showing like the 53-year-old’s first season in England, has called into question his job security.
United have already suffered nine losses in 21 league games, placing them eighth in the Premier League and 11 points behind Aston Villa in fourth place.
Additionally, they were eliminated from the Champions League due to their group’s low finish. And their Carabao Cup defense came to an end with a miserable 3-0 loss against Newcastle at home.
Despite United’s difficulties this season, Casemiro maintains that ten Hag is still the best man for the position.
“Last season we had really good growth and the team was trending upwards,” he told CNN as echoed by Daily Mail.
“Of course, Manchester United always needs more and more and always needs to be winning but we showed last season that we are capable of achieving great things.”
The club’s impending partial takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe has intensified scrutiny surrounding ten Hag’s future.
