Real Madrid are reportedly willing to snap up Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk as they seek to take advantage of Jurgen Klopp exit by the end of the season.
Late last week, Klopp formally announced his departure from Anfield after nine years as the Reds’ manager.
Given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of a number of Klopp’s top players, Liverpool may see major changes this summer. Similar to the events of when Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United and Arsene Wenger left Arsenal.
In 18 months, the contracts of Mohamed Salah, Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield will expire. And there are rumors that some of Klopp’s mainstays might leave.
According to the Spanish daily Fichajes as reported by CaughtOffside, Real Madrid have dropped a “bombshell” on Liverpool by attempting to capitalize on Klopp’s departure from the club by going after captain Van Dijk.
With the news of Klopp’s departure, the futures of other Liverpool players are said to be ‘shrouded in uncertainty’. And the La Liga strongholds are expected to ‘go for van Dijk’s signature’.
Regarding Klopp’s summer departure from Anfield, the Netherlands international’s comments on Monday raised questions about his future at Liverpool.
“The club will have a big job on their hands, that is well known,” Van Dijk said.
“To replace not only the manager but the whole staff and there are so many things that will change.
