This month, Newcastle United was not able to secure Kalvin Phillips on a loan from Manchester City Reproted by NewsNow.
At the beginning of the transfer window, Phillips was a major transfer target for Newcastle United. However, the Magpies’ interest in the player waned as a result of Man City’s demands for a loan fee, and West Ham United moved in to strike a deal. During Phillips’ half-season loan period, the Hammers will cover all of his salaries in addition to a sizeable loan fee.

Although central midfield has been regarded as a crucial area to reinforce, Newcastle has not yet added a senior player to their roster this transfer window. And as he clarified why the team was unable to come to an agreement for Phillips, Magpies head coach Eddie Howe said that the player was a target this month.
“We had to step away from that one due to financial reasons,” Howe admitted. “I don’t want to go into too much detail but it was financial-related.”
After missing out on Phillips, Howe went on to admit that there is a ‘big possibility’ Newcastle won’t make any signings before the transfer window closes on February 1.
