Liverpool has suggested that Xabi Alonso should take over as their coach but the Basque manager may end up at Manchester City.
It is anticipated that Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso will sign with Manchester City and decline managerial approaches from Liverpool.
The former player for the Reds has had a remarkable debut to his managerial career at the BayArena, resulting in the Bundesliga team to 44 victories in his 68 games in charge.
Since Jurgen Klopp has announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the 23–24 season, Alonso has emerged as the front-runner to take Klopp’s place on Merseyside.
However, the former Real Madrid midfielder has consistently hailed the Etihad Stadium as a dream location at some point, claims Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
Xabi Alonso’s Opinion
Speaking on The Football News Show on BBC, he stated: “I’ll tell you a little secret. When he went to Bayer Leverkusen, he told his agent ‘do you know what, I am thinking that if it doesn’t go well at Bayer Leverkusen, I’ll go back to Real Sociedad.
“But if it goes well, from here, it’s Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. Let me add Manchester City to the equation and that’s where Xabi Alonso could go next. When, is a different matter.”
According to FourFourTwo, Alonso’s managerial experience has only been in Spain and Germany thus far; the Premier League has not yet put his abilities to the test. The 42-year-old has been recognized for his three-at-the-back formation and deft counterattacking techniques till date. His methodology differs from that of Klopp and Pep Guardiola in recent times.
Alonso has maintained his silence about his future plans while rumors about him swirl, and he recently stated that working with Leverkusen is his top priority.
“I am not in that moment to think about the next thing,” he began. “I’m just thinking about where I am right now. And I think that I’m in a great place and I am enjoying it. And I think it’s the right place.

“That’s all I can say. “I don’t know what my pace [of my career] is. My pace is what’s going to be the pace of the team on Saturday, to be honest, b because that’s what really matters.
“What is going to happen in the future, I don’t know, and I don’t really care at the moment.”
