Richarlison stated to ESPN  that having a psychologist on the national team is crucial for providing support to the players. Only we are aware of the pressure we face, both on and off the field. Even outside, my suffering was greater. The presence of a psychologist is crucial. We are aware of the discrimination that can arise when someone declares they are in need of assistance; I was once one of those people, but I no longer am. As a vocal and contributing member of the national team, I encourage others to get assistance since it literally saved my life. I’d already reached my lowest point.”

The striker had ‘vowed’ in September 2023 to see a psychologist following more than a year of struggling to find consistency for both club and country. After being replaced during Selecao’s 5-1 victory over Bolivia, he broke down in tears. The striker’s form has improved since then, as seen by his nine goals in his previous 12 Premier League games.
