Palmer Breaks Silence On Penalty Row Following Pochettino Warning

Chelsea midfielder, Cole Palmer has downplayed the penalty incident that soured the Blues’ crushing 6-0 victory over Everton, claiming that the players were just ‘laughing and joking’ about it after it happened.

A fight that broke out before Palmer and Madueke’s quick-fire fouls in the 64th minute, which was given as penalty, soured an otherwise fantastic night for the Blues in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Monday. With Madueke wanting to take the penalty.

Following a confrontation between Madueke and Nicolas Jackson, player-of-the-match Palmer—Chelsea”s hat-trick hero and highly effective designated penalty taker this season—weighed in after gathering himself.

It took captain Conor Gallagher to finally step in and restore order. Palmer calmly dispatched his attempt to record his fourth goal of the evening. Tying Erling Haaland for first place in the Golden Boot standings with 20 goals in 28 appearances.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino had a furious reaction to the spat, saying he would not tolerate such behaviour in future.

According to The Evening Standard, Palmer, though, dismissed the altercation, calling it “nothing major” and a sign that all Chelsea’s players are willing to shoulder responsibility. He also maintained that the altercation was friendly in the dressing room.

“Other players wanted to take it which is understandable with the game at 4-0,” the England international told Sky Sports. “But I’m the penalty taker and I wanted to take it so in the end I took it.

Maybe it was a bit over the top with the arguing and stuff but everyone wants to win, help and stuff so it is nothing major.

“We were laughing and joking about it. The gaffer has told us now.”
