Ronald Araujo appears to be the front-runner for the sales that Barcelona has to make this summer.
The Uruguayan defender has been the subject of numerous reports in the past few weeks, with the Blaugrana’s position fluctuating between being “untouchable” and being open to offers.
The 24-year-old is still in contract negotiations with the Blaugrana, though no progress has been achieved in recent months.
Barcelona is rumored to be considering an offer of between €80 and €100 million for Araujo, amid interest from Bayern Munich and the Premier League, according to Football Espana
Sport has reported that while he is eager to remain at Barcelona, his entourage is not as enthusiastic and is not pleased with the renewal offer that Barcelona has made to him.
Alejandro Balde, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, and the Blaugrana have allegedly thought about selling but none of them are looking to leave the team.
In contrast, they think they can convince Araujo to give up his salary and quit the team, which would help them out financially, even if it would mean he would be able to earn more money at another elite team.
The departure of Araujo might not be sufficient for Barcelona to make any acquisitions at all and all indications suggest that the Blaugrana will attempt to hold onto Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.
Araujo’s position is one where Barcelona has depth and excellent alternatives.
Nonetheless, he is essentially the indisputable best of the group, so Barcelona would suffer on the field and emotionally if they lose him.
In addition, if the goal is to sign Felix and Cancelo instead, that seems like a rather bad trade-off.
