Rodri Aims Dig At Arsenal Following Another Man City Premier League Title

Manchester City midfielder, Rodri Hernandez said Arsenal lacked the mentality to win the Premier League after the Sky Blues clinched their fourth consecutive title.

The 27-year-old Spain international scored the game-winning third goal in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over West Ham to guarantee Pep Guardiola’s team would prevail over Arsenal to reclaim the domestic title.

The Gunners knew going into the season finale, City would have to drop points to their opponents in order to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004. However, City won and recorded their ninth straight match victory, ending the Gunners title hopes.

With 91 points at the end of the season, City only managed two more than Arsenal. And according to The Mirror, Rodri believes Mikel Arteta’s side lost the league because of their negative play in the 0-0 draw at the Etihad back in March.

Speaking after the West Ham match, Rodri told Optus Sport: “It’s the mentality. Great players are all over the leagues, all over the clubs. Arsenal also, they did an unbelievable season.

“But I think the difference was in [the head]. When they came here, when they faced us at the Etihad, I saw, these guys do not want to beat us. They just want to draw. And that mentality, we would not do the same way. And we caught it.

“In the end, if you give us one point, we will win the last seven, eight games even though it is tough. It is in terms of mentality.”

Under Guardiola, City have now won the Premier League six times in the previous seven years. Last season, the team achieved a remarkable treble, which included the club’s first-ever Champions League title.
