Former Bayern Boss Favourite For Barcelona Job

Former Bayern Munich head coach, is reportedly the heavy favourite to succeed Xavi Hernandez as Barcelona manager.

Even though it had been widely reported that Barcelona President Joan Laporta planned on dismissing Xavi at the end of the season, yesterday’s meeting between Sporting Director Deco and assistant Bojan Krkic and candidate Flick was the most definitive indication yet that the 44-year-old spell is coming to an end.

The nature of the meeting—a presential meeting in London or a video call—has been debated. But according to Sport as reported by Football Espana, the German was easy to talk to and that Deco felt in sync with him.

It seems that Flick is now the most qualified candidate for the position, ahead of Barca Atletic manager Rafael Marquez, having already made his squad plans and demands known before the summer transfer window opened. Agent Pini Zahavi, who has influence with Laporta, has also acknowledged him.

Prior to the meeting, it was said that Laporta preferred Flick over Marquez, despite the fact that Flick was the more expensive option.

It is also unknown how Xavi’s contract situation will be handled. Flick would be working for the first time outside of Germany, with an exception of two years he worked as RB Salzburg’s assistant in Austria.
