Lopetegui succeeds Moyes, who spent a mixed five-and-a-half years with the Hammers after taking over for the second time in December 2019.

West Ham won their first major trophy in 43 years under Moyes by winning the Europa Conference League last year, but the Scot was under. Reported on Metro.

In Moyes’ final season in east London, West Ham finished ninth in the Premier League, missing out on Europe for the fourth time in succession.

‘I’m really thrilled, first and foremost, to be able to contribute to the future of this big club,’ Lopetegui said. ‘We’ll aim to put our stamp on the club.

‘I believe we have a tremendous platform. Of course, I believe that the last few years have been very beneficial to have this foundation, but my ambition as a coach is to continue to progress, to reach greater and bigger goals, to motivate and improve the players, the squad, and to compete, because that is what football is all about. We are quite ambitious about this.

‘I am where I want to be. I am here because I want to be here and for us it was a fantastic day when we closed our agreement here because we our commitment is 100 per cent to be here.

‘We had other opportunities but I am very happy that West Ham chose me because I chose West Ham too, so we are really happy about this.
