Barcelona Set Date To Appoint New Manager

Barcelona have reportedly set a date to announce the appointment of a new manager following reports, Xavi Hernandez will leave his role as the head coach of the club.

German coach Hansi Flick seems to be the most qualified candidate to succeed Xavi, given the rumors swirling around his future.

A meeting to review Xavi’s performance is scheduled for Monday, the day after their season-ending match. Late last week, reports surfaced that President Joan Laporta had already decided to fire him.

Barca may be required to pay up to €20 million in redundancy fees if they are unable to come to an agreement regarding the 44-year-old future. They will also need to negotiate the termination of his contract and that of his staff. According to MD, once that dispute is resolved, it appears that Barcelona will decide on Flick, giving him a one-year contract with the option of a second season.

El Chiringuito claims that Flick will be named as Xavi’s successor after he is fired on Monday and has a farewell party on Tuesday. It appears that Laporta has determined that a more seasoned coach—rather than Rafael Marquez, the other front-runner—is more suitable for the team.

Meanwhile, Football Espana has stated that Flick’s announcement could come as soon as Monday.

Despite receiving offers in the past, Xavi has insisted that he will take a year off from coaching before evaluating his career once more.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner with Spain declined the South Korea offer earlier this season after announcing his intention to depart. Despite rumors that he was being linked to both the AC Milan and Manchester United jobs.
