According to sources, Chelsea is trying to sign Tosin Adarabioyo from Newcastle United.

Toon chiefs are negotiating with the Fulham defender, whose contract ends next month. Adarabioyo had already expressed a wish to leave Craven Cottage after four years.

FFP/PSR constraints require the Magpies to be astute in their business decisions, and signing Adarabioyo, a Manchester City youth product, on a free transfer is a no-brainer. However, according to Sky Sports News, Chelsea is seeking to hijack Newcastle’s deal by offering a contract.

The Blues also require centre-back replacements after losing experienced international Thiago Silva. Wesley Fofana has been injured for two seasons after signing from Leicester City, leaving Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, and Benoit Badiashile as first-team possibilities.

Chelsea may have an advantage in European football, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side finishing ahead of Newcastle in the Conference League. That was insufficient for the Argentine to keep his job, and the managerial search is a more pressing matter at Stamford Bridge.

Reports Adarabioyo has had great talks with Newcastle and is eager to work under Howe and Manchester United is another Premier League club connected with a late transfer.
