Liverpool are apparently preparing to make a move for Aston Villa’s star striker, Ollie Watkins, as new manager Arne Slot considers his first significant signing.
Watkins, who recently had his most successful season yet with 27 goals in all competitions, is being pursued by the Reds despite signing a long-term contract with Villa in October.
According to The Sun, Liverpool sees Watkins as the ideal substitute for Darwin Nunez, who has been erratic in front of goal.

Despite finishing the season with 18 goals in all competitions, Nunez’s finishing has been heavily critiqued, and Barcelona has expressed interest.
Slot, who recently succeeded Jurgen Klopp, has taken note of Watkins’ excellent performance. The article claims that a prolific number nine is high on his priority list, and Watkins, 28, fits the bill.
Watkins is now battling with Ivan Toney to be Harry Kane’s backup in England. A great performance in the Euros might boost his value, making it difficult for Villa to keep him as they prepare for a Champions League campaign.
Watkins moved to Villa from Brentford for a then-record sum of £28 million and has subsequently proven his worth. If he leaves, Villa will make a sizable profit, allowing manager Unai Emery to evaluate prospective successors.
However, the Villa striker has stated that he has no intention of leaving. He stated his loyalty to the club after signing his new contract. He remarked, “I believe this is the finest environment for me to play football. I still have a lot to achieve here.”
Villa has consistently rejected offers for their top players, in line with their aspirations.
