Real Madrid Come Full Circle With Second Great European Dynasty

Real Madrid added another chapter to their already amazing love affair with European football’s best club trophy on Saturday, defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League final to win the title for the 15th time.

The story of the season they completed at Wembley was about two generations of players who met, united as a squad, and connected on the pitch like a well-oiled machine to establish Real Madrid’s second great dynasty, which the club had been yearning for for 50 years.

The current combination of youthful players and seasoned veterans have matched that with a sixth title in 11 seasons, albeit Dani Carvajal, who scored the opener, is the sole surviving starter from the team that won ‘The 10th’ a decade ago.

The defender, who matched Real Madrid legend Paco Gento’s record six European Cup victories alongside Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Nacho, was a long-time reserve who stepped up this season and won the trophy as team captain.

“I’ve never lost a final. “I hope this streak continues,” he remarked. “Getting our 15th and sixth is fantastic. As we continue to win, it becomes increasingly difficult for any other team to match what this club has accomplished throughout its history. It’s something spectacular.”

“I’ll miss this,” said Kroos. “Of course I wanted to say goodbye with this Champions League victory. The title means an unbelievable amount to me.”

But Ancelotti, who as a manager holds the record of most Champions League finals played (six) and won (five), did not seem too worried about the challenge.

“We will have to adapt ourselves to the players we have and try to maximise their qualities like we have always done,” he told a press conference.

MBAPPE THE NEXT PRIZE

Real’s madrid success comes just a year after Manchester City won the trophy for the first time, a victory that many predicted would usher in a new era of supremacy for Pep Guardiola’s squad in Europe. Instead,

Their domination will be tested as French sensation Kylian Mbappe is expected to join from Paris Saint-Germain during the off-season, while Brazil’s young starlet Endrick is on his way.

Not that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would confirm Mbappe’s presence.
