Romano Confirms Arsenal Will Complete Their ‘First Signing Of The Summer’ In ‘The Next Few Days’

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will make their “first signing of the summer” by making David Raya’s deal from Brentford permanent.

The Gunners missed out on the Premier League title on the last day of the season, as Manchester City defeated West Ham 3-1 to earn their fourth consecutive title.

Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side are getting closer to capturing their first Premier League title since 2003, with the Spaniard improving year after year.

Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber offered depth of talent last summer, albeit the latter missed the majority of the season due to injury, and Raya joined on loan from Brentford to give Aaron Ramsdale some competition in goal.

Raya joined for an initial £3 million, with Arsenal now ready to exercise the £27 million option to buy, according to Romano, and the transaction may be completed in the “next few days”.

Romano said in his Caught Offside column: “In the next few days, Arsenal will make their first signing of the summer with the permanent transfer of David Raya.

“The goalkeeper joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford last summer with a buy option, but Arsenal and Brentford had already agreed that Raya would make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2024. Arsenal will honour the agreement by exercising its £27 million buy option.

“Mikel Arteta is overjoyed and wanted Raya to stay, thus Arsenal is ready to convert his loan contract into a permanent one. And, as previously stated, Aaron Ramsdale is slated to leave the club this summer; they want to find a replacement for him because Raya is now Arteta’s clear number one.
