Thomas Tuchel is allegedly out of the running to be Manchester United’s new manager.
The news comes shortly after rumors surfaced on Sunday that Tuchel had met with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in a covert meeting in Monaco. The German has been heavily connected with United since news broke in February that the former Chelsea manager was leaving Bayern Munich.

United are now reviewing the 2023/24 season, including manager Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford. A decision is due this week, although Tuchel does not appear to be available this summer if the club is seeking for a new manager.
Tuchel’s transfer claim
According to the Times, Tuchel told Ratcliffe that he wanted United to recruit Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rudiger. The pair had worked together at Chelsea, but United would have needed to put together a costly transfer package to sign him, similar to the one used to acquire Casemiro in 2022.
According to MEN Sport’s Isaac Seelochan, Rudiger has made significant progress at Madrid and has been a key member of the Spanish club’s defence, which has helped them win many Champions League titles. The German might work well alongside Lisandro Martinez in the heart of United’s defence.
However, at 31, this would be akin to the Casemiro transfer a few years ago, and Ineos is unlikely to pursue that path. It has never worked for United before, and given the potential financial stakes, it is unlikely to succeed this time either.
