Real Madrid Will Not Play 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Says Ancelotti

During an interview with Il Giornale, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti indicated that his team will decline an invitation to the redesigned team World Cup in 2025.

Rather than being held at the end of the year in a mini-tournament format that typically includes playing in the semi-finals and final for a Champions League winning team, the Club World Cup will now be nearly a month long and held in the United States at the end of the club season and the height of summer.

Relevo stated that Real Madrid is averse to participating in the competition last week, with an anonymous source from the club cited as stating that FIFA is “going to kill the players” with an enormous workload, which for its stars might mean playing up to 72 matches in 2024/2025.

And now, speaking to Il Giornale in his native Italy, Ancelotti cautioned that “FIFA can forget about that” in relation to the Club World Cup.

“Players and clubs will not compete in that competition. A single Madrid game is worth €20 million ($21.5 million), and FIFA wants to give us that amount for the entire tournament. “Several clubs, including us, will decline the invitation,” Ancelotti said.

It’s noteworthy that Ancelotti says the money for participation in the Club World Cup is as such, given that various sites, including Mundo Deportivo, have put the sum at $53.8 million (€50 million).
