Liverpool, Man United Plan Move For Injured Dutch Star

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly planning a summer move for Atalanta midfielder, Teun Koopmeiners.

The 26-year-old faces the prospect of missing the European Championship in Germany as he was injured during warm-up ahead of the Netherlands 4-0 thumping of Iceland on Monday night.

Even though the Oranje won handily, manager Ronald Koeman’s announcement that star midfielder Frenkie de Jong had not recovered in time to play in this summer’s tournament was a source of concern for the country’s supporters.

The injury Koopmeiners suffered during warm-up poses a threat to further thin out the Netherlands’ midfield. Furthermore, Koeman acknowledged that he has a “bad feeling” about the Atalanta star’s chances of getting fit for competition. Even though an evaluation of the player’s injury issue is still pending.

According to reports, Atalanta intended to hold off on making a move on Koopmeiners until after the Euros. This is because they thought a major tournament might raise his value. Juventus, United, and Liverpool have all reportedly expressed interest in the 26-year-old.

According to Calciomercato as reported by Daily Express United are willing to pay £60 million for the player. While Juve would be hard-pressed to spend more than £34 million on him.

The main lure for Liverpool is the opportunity to rejoin Koopmeiners with manager Arne Slot, who he had previously worked with at AZ Alkmaar.

United and the Reds might not need to spend as much money after all, as Atalanta may lose their chance to secure a high price for Koopmeiners following Euro 2024.

The brilliant midfield player, who scored 12 goals in a stellar Serie A season, will still cost a fortune.
