Because of UEFA’s regulations on multi-club ownership, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has declared that Manchester United will not be able to sign any Nice players during this transfer window.
Because both United’s and the Ligue 1 team qualified for the Europa League, UEFA intervened to enforce its regulations, which at first prohibited clubs with the same ownership structure from participating in the same European competitions. United’s minority owner also owns the Ligue 1 team.

With Ratcliffe placing the French team in a blind trust, UEFA has acknowledged that there is no direct connection between United and Nice. Owners have the opportunity to demonstrate this. However, teams who qualify for the same competitions are also prohibited from doing business with one another or exchanging databases or information due to UEFA’s crackdown on multi-club ownership.
Although Ratcliffe withheld their name, it is believed that Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, a center back, is the player that United is interested in signing. United has been keeping an eye on the 24-year-old as they try to expand their defensive options this summer, but that deal is no longer on the table.
Ratcliffe told Bloomberg, “They’ve said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can’t sell to Manchester United.” “But I don’t see what that achieves, and it’s unfair to the player.”
Ratcliffe’s company, Ineos, acquired 27.7% of United in February of this year and completely took over Nice through a buyout in 2019. Ratcliffe has been given command over the football department at Old Trafford, despite being a minority shareholder in the team.
