Arsenal Seal Permanent Signing Of Barcelona Ace

Arsenal have announced the permanent signing of Mariona Caldentey following the expiration of her contract with Barcelona.

After ten years with the Liga F giants, the 28-year-old now signs for the Gunners. She progressed through UD Collerense’s youth systems before signing with the Catalan team in 2014, having made an impression when playing for the under-19 squad of Spain.

Caldentey made over 300 senior appearances in her ten years at Barcelona, where she won six league crowns, three Champions Leagues, six Spanish Cups, four Spanish Super Cups, and six Catalan Cups.

She featured for the triumphant Spain in both the Nations League earlier this year and the World Cup last summer.

According to 90min, Caldentey, who scored 114 goals in all competitions during her time with Barcelona, is also the fifth highest goal scorer in the club’s illustrious history. In her 72 caps for the national team thus far, she has scored 26 goals.

“I’m so happy to be here,” Caldentey told Arsenal.com. “This is the right time for a new challenge for me and Arsenal is the perfect place.

“I think what Arsenal are doing as a club is amazing – on and off the pitch. I love the way we want to play as a team and I think there’s a strong mentality building here.

“It’s been incredible to see what the club has done away from the pitch, with supporters following the team everywhere and lots of records being broken.

“I can’t wait to get started and help the team win trophies and entertain our supporters.”
